A Project for Autumn Lights Festival 2021.
Butterfly in Light is a collaborative project for the Oakland Autumn Lights Festival. A larger-than life film of a butterfly in flight, each frame rendered in a different light-up medium, from shadowbox paper cutouts to EL wire.
It consists of 12 frames of a monarch butterfly in flight, each one rendered in a different medium – from shadowbox paper cutouts to EL wire.

What is this?
Each frame is a square, 12″x12″, and will be contained in a 12″x12″x2.5″ wooden shadowbox.
Each frame will be connected along a shielded cable to a 5V AC power source and signal wire. A sequencer will turn each frame on for 1-2 seconds, and then off (so only 1 is on at the same time).
The frames will be designed to hang on a wall or fence, and can be spaced out to fit the display area as needed. The minimum length of the film is 14 feet (with about 2 inches between each frame), and the maximum length will be approximately 28 feet.
