Peer to Peer Computer Support Meetup

Host: Ken Tyler

Cost: $5

Ken grew up in the central valley. He attended Stanford and spent 20 years working as a blacksmith. His experience includes: MSACCESS database consulting, web based database building, MS SQL Server, MySQL. He built and ran seedwiki.com back in the day when wikis were a new thing. He is looking into noSQL databases. He also works with non-profits and enjoys the people he meets there.

Says Ken: “As I get older, I begin to think that almost all of the real difficult problems are people problems, not computer problems.

“Everyone has the same problem. We all depend on computer and web tech and we all have problems we need help with. I started this group in the belief that if people would come together and be willing to help each other a great many of these problems could be dealt with.”

A Developer’s Overview of WordPress

Learn about the world’s most popular Content Management System (CMS), WordPress. Anca Mosoiu, who has been developing WordPress sites since 2006, will give a developer-focused overview of this LAMP platform, which is simple enough for your grandma’s bridge club site, flexible enough for a neighborhood business association, and powerful enough for a book publisher’s online presence.

We’ll be discussing the following topics (but bring your questions, I like the free-for-all format of meetup discussions)

  • How WordPress works (installation, wordpress.com vs. wordpress.org)
  • Basic theming
  • Plugins for 1001 utilities
  • Where you can go to do more.

East Bay Rails Meetup

Thursday/Friday       August 25th and 26th

The workshop you’ve been asking for!

* The ability and tools to produce web graphics (e.g. cut up a Photoshop file).
* A specific website you want to build.  Bring your static site or design comps to the workshop.
