Marshawn Mandley was born and raised in Brooklyn New York in 1976. As the middle child in a family of three he always had an interesting ability to create visually. Marshawn began his journey expressing his self artistically, by drawing and doing collages using magazines, color construction paper, and anything else he could get his hands on. He was always amazed at the beautiful colors he would see while riding the trains or from bus windows with his father. Seeing the huge graffiti characters and growing up in the birth place of hip-hop culture highly influenced his work. Through watching his older sister, listening to hip-hop music, watching the break dancing, and viewing the graffiti art he found a world of inspiration always at his finger tips. Although Marshawn may have begun his artistic career as amateur, he expanded his horizons at Washington Irving High School where he engaged in a fine arts curriculum. Mr. Mandley has continued to pursue his career in art focusing on the field of illustration and cartooning. He has participated in several art shows throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and New York such as the Five Miles Annual Art Show, Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Voice of the Arts Show, and has been featured as an alumni artist at City College of San Francisco. Currently Marshawn Mandley is attending California College of the Arts majoring in illustration with a minor in cartooning.
