Susan is the founder of Oakland Local and a recognized national expert in using social media for personal branding, business and civic engagement. Mernit is a nationally active trainer and coach for organizations including The John S and James L Knight Foundation, JAWS (Women in Journalism), and The Knight Digital Media Center at USC Annenberg School of Journalism. She was a Senior Fellow for the Reporting on Health project at USC Annenberg School of Journalism and works as a Circuit Rider for the Knight Community Information Challenge.
