I spent a little time today reading the Google Webmaster Tools site, in particular, their section on Search Engine Optimization(SEO). There is a wealth of resources there, and they are more up to date than anything you might find on blogs – so when you search for SEO help, start at Google, not at some blog written in 2009.
There are a few really helpful pages and resources there:
- Search Engine Optimization Starter Guide (pdf document)
- Webmaster Guidelines (including the link to use to submit your site to Google). The Quality Guidelines section, especially, helped answer a question I had about H1 tags on pages and posts.
- Webmaster Checklist (lots of helpful links for getting your site indexed, updated, and more)
It always makes me laugh when I read some garbage on some random blog which repeats hearsay from other random blogs about what Google does or does not do. I call it Blogistan’s Echo Chamber.
The irony, of course, is that none of those earnest and obviously well-meaning bloggers ever read through Google’s website.
I’m tempted to snag first comment on all the rest of your blog posts. Maybe write a couple hundred words each – good comments – supporting your post.
Then you could point to me as an example of one way to build traffic by planting little seeds all over Blogistan. Just let me know…
